Community Transaction Partner
WLP is dedicated to securing land for the public interest. Successful land conservation projects require perseverance, negotiating experience, and broad knowledge about land, conservation values, contracts, title issues and the economics of selling, purchasing and stewarding land. WLP is creative, resourceful and dedicated to conservation causes.
WF Neighborhood Plan
The Whitefish State Trust Land Neighborhood Plan is a land-use plan that was approved in 2006 for the 13,000-plus acres of State School Trust Land surrounding the community of Whitefish in Flathead County, Montana. The Neighborhood Plan defines future land uses for trust lands, which comprise a large portion of the area covered by the Whitefish City/County Master Plan that was adopted in 1996. The Neighborhood Plan is the first large-scale, collaborative land-use plan prepared for any trust lands in the State of Montana.

Places Worth Protecting
“There can be no greater issue than that of conservation in this country.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Whitefish Legacy Lands Initiative
In keeping with our community-minded vision, Whitefish Legacy Partners (WLP) is seeking to permanently secure over 2500 acres for public recreation and conservation in the treasured areas of Beaver Lake and Spencer Mountain.
The Whitefish Legacy Lands Initiative involves a series of transactions, put together by several key public and private partners, to create permanent public recreation and provide more revenue than ever to Montana’s schools and universities. Whitefish Legacy Partners anticipates approval by the state Land Board by year’s end, 2012.
Public lands and world-class trails are at the heart of Whitefish. WLP recognizes that clean water, recreation, thriving forests, uncluttered views and wildlife are a huge part of our way of life. The transactions will contribute to that legacy by establishing trails, conservation areas and public access, and continuing traditional forest management by the state.
These proposed actions are the work of a proven partnership between the City of Whitefish, the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Montana State Parks, the US Forest Service, and private conservation champions.
In order to complete this project, we need to raise $1 million locally by the end of the year.
This will go toward purchasing easements for permanent conservation and public access. Whitefish Legacy Partners will also establish a capital fund to support this work over the coming years.
Whitefish Legacy Partners is a group of community leaders who value recreation, education, and conservation opportunities. We are devoted to establishing a legacy of our natural lands for the residents, visitors, and students of Whitefish and Montana.
We cannot do this work without your continued support. Join us to leave a legacy of your own.
