Every day on the trail is getting greener and greener, and every outing feels like a treasure! The trails are in amazing shape for walking, biking, hiking and simply soaking up the fresh air and bird song! Big Mountain Trailhead is the only trailhead that still has snow. Please remember that the bears are out of hibernation so you should always bring bear spray with you on the trail. If you want to learn more about bears and bear safety, consider joining one of our upcoming Bear Aware events on April 29 (indoor lecture) or May 1 (hike).
This is also a busy trail work time of year, and we are working hard to clear every trail of downed trees from winter storms and ensure proper drainage to keep the trail in good shape. Make sure to thank an Adopt A Trail Crew if you see them out there working! Local businesses & organizations can adopt a section of trail for three years or more and work closely with our Trail Coordinator on volunteer work days. They are instrumental in helping us keep up with maintenance throughout the trail system. Our Trail Crews include:
Applied Materials
Averill Hospitality
Big Sky Recovery
Church of the Cross
Flathead Area Mountain Bikers
Grouse Mountain Estates
Grouse Mountain Lodge
NW Montana Backcountry Horsemen
Parkside Credit Union
RE/MAX Whitefish
