Get out on the Whitefish Trail this week before Old Man Winter starts knocking on our door this weekend! It's been an autumn to remember in NW Montana with week after week of mild, sunny weather. The Flathead Valley typically sees its first snowfall in the first half of October, and we all know how abruptly the perfect weather can end!
It has been wonderful to see so many smiling faces out on the trail system this past week. Bikers are reveling in the extended trail season, entire families are enjoying the fall colors, and trail dogs are panting with joy. The entire Whitefish Trail system is in perfect condition. Colors are now changing at all elevations and western larch trees are changing colors quickly. It won't be long before our scenic viewsheds come alive with groves of golden larch.
Community volunteers helped relocate the Swift Creek Overlook last weekend to an improved location without any bank erosion. The work involved permanently closing the existing overlook by decommissioning the trail, moving the scenic bench, and installing new signs.
The new overlook is just 1/4 mile to the east and offers expansive views of Swift Creek and the Whitefish Range. Thanks to our volunteers for making this important project happen!
